Tottenham have found out during this transfer window just how difficult it is to attract top talent when one is languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table.
The Lilywhites were first turned down by Randal Kolo Muani earlier this month, and over the last few days, both Mathys Tel and Fikayo Tomori have said no to Ange Postecoglou‘s men.
Now, according to reports from France, the Premier League side have failed in another one of their late transfer pursuits after making an approach for a Monaco man.
Breel Embolo turns down potential Tottenham move
This update comes from journalist Loic Tanzi, who claims that Tottenham made an approach for Breel Embolo, who has found himself in and out of the starting eleven at Stade Louis II this season.
The Swiss international, who is a striker by trade, but can also operate wide on the right, has five goals and seven assists to his name so far this season.
However, Tanzi says that despite Spurs being ‘notably’ interested in the 26-year-old, he has decided to remain at Monaco until the end of the campaign.
The journalist suggests that Embolo‘s future is expected to once again become the topic of much speculation and interest at the end of the season.
Which forward will Tottenham turn to now?
It is not clear at the moment who the other forwards on Tottenham’s wishlist are, but one would hope that the club do have some deals lined up as fallback options.
With little over 24 hours to go, the Spurs hierarchy are now in a race against time to bring a forward through the door.
They might be tempted to make some panic buys in the final hours of the window, although Ange Postecoglou has been pretty clear that he does not want bodies through the door for the sake of it.
