Burnley could hand Tottenham a small financial boost this week

0

Tottenham Hotspur are in line to pocket a few million as one of their former academy wingers is reportedly on the cusp of returning to English football.

Marcus Edwards on his way out of Sporting Lisbon

Edwards has gone from being considered one of Sporting Lisbon’s most important players a couple of years ago to a bit of a pariah at the Portuguese club.

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Marcus Edwards’ lack of discipline has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, with the Lisbon club keen to get him out of the door.

It now looks like Sporting are about to get their wish, with the 26-year-old thought to be on the verge of completing a return to England.

Spurs to receive financial boost as Edwards set for late transfer

It has now been revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Burnley are in advanced talks to sign the Tottenham academy graduate.

Interestingly, it is revealed that former Spurs midfielder and academy coach, Scott Parker, who worked with Edwards at Hotspur Way, could prove a key factor for the winger in deciding to move to Turf Moor.

If Edwards does make the most, Tottenham will stand to get a financial boost, with the Lilywhites holding a 35 per cent sell-on clause for Edwards.

Edwards will be back in the PL next before long

It is surprising that Edwards appears to be on his way to a Championship club rather than a Premier League side.

That perhaps shows how much the winger’s stock has dropped over the last 18 months, owing to both on-field and off-field issues.

One would think that it is only a matter of time before the 26-year-old is back in the English top flight. Even if the Clarets do not get promoted this season, Edwards will hope to catch the eye of a few Premier League sides with his displays for Parker’s men.
