Tottenham facing major roadblock in Evan Ferguson deal

According to reports, Ange Postecoglou has allegedly asked Tottenham to prioritise signing a forward before the February 3 transfer deadline.

It has emerged over recent days that Brighton are willing to loan Evan Ferguson, with Spurs alerted by the Irishman’s availability, viewing the youngster as a solution to their injury issues upfront.

However, other sources have indicated that Ferguson may be reluctant to join Ange Postecoglou’s side as he is unsure about getting game time at N17, with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison already at the club.

The Guardian have also backed up the claim about Ferguson being available on a late loan deal.

The outlet suggests that Arsenal could look to make a late move for the Seagulls man as the Gunners want to add more firepower to their squad.

However, it is pointed out that Mikel Arteta’s men would have to cut short one of their two existing domestic loans (Neto from Bournemouth or Raheem Sterling from Chelsea) in order to be able to push through the deal for Ferguson

Additionally, the publication adds that West Ham and Marseille are also looking to tie up a late loan deal for the Irish centre-forward.

Tottenham need a versatile forward rather than a number-nine

Signing an out-and-out number nine like Ferguson will essentially force Ange Postecoglou to use Richarlison as a wide option, which is far from ideal.

The Australian will prefer a versatile forward who can operate across the front three so that he has a lot more options to rotate his squad.

If Spurs cannot find a player of such a profile, they would be better off singing an out-and-out winger, who can take on and beat his man.
