Chances of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham revealed
Journalist Dean Jones has discussed the likelihood of Mauricio Pochettino completing a fairytale return to Tottenham Hotspur to replace Ange Postecoglou in the managerial hot seat.
Are Spurs on the lookout for Ange Postecoglou’s replacement?
The noises coming out of Tottenham over the last few days is that despite the team’s shocking run of form, Ange Postecoglou is not in danger of being sacked immediately.
There is reportedly an understanding among the club’s decision-makers about the fact that the Australian has presided over a historic injury crisis, which has significantly handicapped the side over the last few months.
However, other outlets have suggested that Spurs already have prepared a shortlist to replace the 59-year-old, with names such as Edin Terzic, Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola being considered.
Could Mauricio Pochettino be set for a shock Tottenham return?
There have even been suggestions over recent days that Daniel Levy could turn to former fan favourite, Pochettino, to save the club from their current mess.
The Argentine, who took over as the head coach of the United States national side back in September of last year, has spoken in the past about his desire to return to Spurs one day to take care of unfinished business and guide the club to silverware.
However, journalist Dean Jones believes that the former Tottenham manager is ‘very unlikely’ to consider returning to N17 at this stage.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “A return for Mauricio Pochettino would undoubtedly excite Tottenham fans, but is very unlikely. He has recently taken charge of the United States men’s national team and while a north London comeback remains a tantalising prospect, his current commitments make it improbable in the near term.”
Daniel Levy’s decision to snub Pochettino looks bad in hindsight
Levy could have quite easily hired Pochettino back in the summer of 2023 as the Argentine would have jumped at the chance to return to Spurs at the time.
The Spurs chairman decided to go for Postecoglou, and it initially seemed a smart decision, given the early success that the Aussie coach had at N17 and Pochettino’s falling out with the Chelsea hierarchy.
However, with hindsight, one does wonder if that was the right time for the 52-year-old to complete a fairytale return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as not only is he proven at this level and knows the surroundings, but the move would have galvanized the fan base.
