Tottenham’s woes at centre-backs

Given the way that Spurs play under Ange Postecoglou, the centre-backs are hugely important to the side as not only do they have to be adept at defending one-v-one, but they also have a key role in the build-up.

That is why the side has been severely compromised as a result of being without both of their first-choice defenders for several months.

However, the situation is soon about to change as Postecoglou confirmed last week that Romero is back in training, and we have now heard a positive update regarding Van de Ven as well.

Micky van de Ven in line for immediate Tottenham return

On Monday, Spurs fans got excited when they saw images of the Dutchman also joining in training along with his centre-back partner.

Tottenham insider, Paul O Keefe, who regularly breaks news on the developments at Hotspur Way, has now confirmed that Van de Ven is in line to be included in the club’s matchday squad for their upcoming Europa League clash against Elfsborg.

While it might be a little premature to expect the 23-year-old to make it onto the pitch, just seeing him on the bench will undoubtedly give a big boost to the squad and the supporters.

Postecolgou faces a tricky decision with Romero and Van de Ven

Tottenham were guilty of rushing both defenders back too quickly the first time, which resulted in them being sidelined for an extended period.

On this occasion, it looks like Postecoglou has been very patient with the pair and given them the time they need to slowly build up their fitness.

The Australian will be keen for both Romero and Van de Ven to start the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool next week, but he will also be wary of the fact that either player has not played a full game at high intensity for a few months.
