Tottenham’s struggles without van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur have been forced to navigate a challenging period in the absence of Micky van de Ven, who has been sidelined for well over a month due to a hamstring injury.

The Dutch centre-back’s last appearance came in early December during Tottenham’s 4-3 defeat to Chelsea.

As Tottenham’s form has faltered in recent weeks, fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the return of key players. Yesterday, a glimmer of hope emerged as van de Ven was spotted engaging in light outdoor training—a positive sign that his return to full fitness may not be far away.

Micky van de Ven is back in Tottenham training

Today, the good news on the injury front continues as Tottenham Hotspur released a video on their official X account, showing the centre-back participating in a training session with the first team. The footage was accompanied by the caption “Micky is back in training ????,”

The video captured van de Ven looking sharp and focused as he joined his teammates in drills, suggesting that his recovery is progressing well.

This development comes as a relief for Ange Postecoglou, who has struggled to find consistent defensive stability in the absence of his Dutch defender.

When are we likely to see Micky van de Ven?

As Tottenham prepare for their Europa League clash against Elfsborg on Thursday night, it is unlikely that Micky van de Ven will be rushed back into action.

While fans may hope to see the defender on the bench, it is more probable that his first minutes back on the pitch will come later, as the club takes a cautious approach to avoid risking further injury.

That said, Ange Postecoglou finds himself in a difficult position. With a Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool looming, the manager will be eager to reintegrate van de Ven into the squad as soon as possible, given his importance to Tottenham’s defensive structure.

It is very likely that he will begin to feature off the bench in order for him to get his match fitness back and not put too much strain on the problematic muscle once again.
