Tottenham open to loan move for Yang Min Hyeok

It was only yesterday that reports surfaced linking Yang Min-hyeok with a move to Queens Park Rangers, with the Championship side keen to bring the young South Korean to Loftus Road for a six-month loan spell.

These links emerged after it was revealed earlier that manager Ange Postecoglou, has expressed his belief that the 18-year-old is not yet ready for first-team action at Hotspur way.

Yang arrived at Tottenham in December from Gangwon FC, a club competing in the K League 1, where he had already begun making a name for himself.

During his time in South Korea, he featured in 38 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists, a return that showcased his potential as a promising attacking talent.

However, since completing his move to North London, there has been a clear willingness from Tottenham to allow him to leave temporarily in order to gain experience elsewhere, and as a result, interest in him has continued to grow.

Watford enter the race for Yang Min-hyeok

Just as it seemed like QPR were closing in on securing Yang Min-hyeok’s services for the remainder of the season, Watford have now emerged as another club interested in taking the teenager on loan.

Well-respected South Korean journalist Steve Han exclusively told Spurs Web: “Watford are also interested in a loan deal for new Spurs signing Yang Min-hyeok. It does seem like QPR are currently frontrunners to land the 18-year-old winger on a six-month deal, but Watford were also keen.”

Regardless of where Yang ends up, the priority for Tottenham will be to ensure that the young forward plays regularly and continues his progression.

What does this mean for Tottenham’s forward options?

The departure of the young forward, raises questions about Tottenham’s squad depth in attack.

With injuries already affecting the squad and a limited number of senior forwards available, allowing Yang Min-hyeok to leave on loan suggests that Tottenham may have a plan in place to reinforce their attacking options before the transfer window closes.

There is also the possibility that Postecoglou sees Yang as too raw for Premier League football at this stage and does not believe he would contribute significantly even if he remained at the club.

This would indicate that, despite his impressive numbers in the K League 1, there is still a considerable gap between where he is now and the level Tottenham requires from their attacking options.
