Who is to blame for Tottenham’s struggles?

There appears to be a big split in the Spurs fan base regarding who is primarily responsible for the side’s current predicament: Daniel Levy or Ange Postecoglou.

While some believe that the issues are systemic and come from the club’s unwillingness to back the manager in the transfer market, others are convinced that the Australian’s tactics have simply not proven to work at the highest level.

However, Sherwood believes that the main issue at the club is something that is not often discussed by the media.

Tim Sherwood points the finger at Spurs’ recruitment

Sherwood has now pointed his finger at the recruitment decisions that are being made at Spurs.

The former Tottenham coach pointed out that the club’s transfer spending is not the problem but accused the recruitment department of making some poor decisions.

Sherwood told Optus Sport: “The glaring problem for me is the recruitment, and it has been for many, many years.

“It’s not the shortage of money that’s being spent, it’s where the money is being spent… [Spurs] had the third highest net spend in the summer, all the time they spend money, you can’t continue spending money, it’s what you’re buying.

“It’s not about what you’re spending, it’s what you spend it on. It’s not good enough, the recruitment is so bad! I think it’s an easy recruitment job to work with Ange Postecoglou, because you know exactly how he wants his team to play, now give him some help.”

Recruitment decisions have generally been good

Johan Lange has received a lot of unwarranted criticism from some sections of the Tottenham fan base, but most of the club’s signings since the Dane arrived have been decent.

The likes of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have all proved to be decent additions while we have not seen enough of Wilson Odobert to judge him.

The only player who you can argue was a bad tactical fit for the side is Radu Dragusin, but even the Romanian has not been a disastrous signing as Spurs could easily get the £25m they paid for him if they decided to offload him.
