Ange Postecoglou admits he does not know if he will remain Spurs manager

Ange Postecoglou continues to praise the efforts of his depleted Spurs squad despite their continued losing streak in the Premier League. Whether he is still the manager for when some of Tottenham’s key players return, remains to be seen.

More injuries have unsurprisingly led to more losses

Tottenham’s performance in their loss against Leicester contained a litany of technical and decision-making errors.

Djed Spence’s absence was announced earlier in the week, but the starting line-up provided fans with the surprise of James Maddison being too sore to play the match. Pape Matar Sarr played through injury and Yves Bissouma was named on the bench but was not fit to contribute.

11 first-team injuries have brought Spurs to their knees. While some players are set to return over the next fortnight, the collapse of Tottenham’s Premier League season may prove fatal to Ange Postecoglou.

‘Who knows’ – Ange Postecoglou on whether he will remain in charge at Spurs

Speaking after the Leicester match, Ange Postecoglou was ambiguous as to whether he would be given the opportunity to carry on as Spurs manager. However, he remained hopeful that there was still a lot to play for this season.

When asked if he would be given another 10 days in charge, Postecoglou said (FootballLondon): “Who knows? I reckon there is probably a fair chunk that will say no. When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t feel that. I feel like this group of players, not for me, are giving everything for the club.

“I have a group of staff that is really committed. I focus on that. My role within that is to try and support these players. I can even see in training when the guys who are coming back come back in it is going to give everybody a lift.

“As I keep saying to the players, there is a fantastic opportunity this season to really make an impact and I know we can. But in terms of your question, is there anything I can say about that that is going to change anything that I need to do tomorrow morning? Nothing.”

Sacking Postecoglou removes Daniel Levy’s final defence

Multiple chants against Daniel Levy reverberated around Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the Leicester match. These sentiments do not remove all culpability from Postecoglou’s shoulders but show that fans have far greater criticism of the board than the manager at this time.

If Postecoglou were to be removed now, there is likely no manager who could come in and make Tottenham any more likely to succeed this season with the squad they have.

Furthermore, Postecoglou remains the only person separating Daniel Levy from the fan’s ire. With all eyes currently on the board, another mid-season reshuffle would be a final straw for many whose patience has already been stretched too far.
