Ange Postecoglou provides transfer update – Spurs have seven days left

0

With one week remaining in the transfer window, the opportunity for Tottenham to help the team in the second half of the season is rapidly disappearing. Ange Postecogou has given an update on the current state of the club’s transfer business as more Spurs players are struck down with injuries.

Tottenham lose again due to fatigue and injuries

Everyone is likely sick of the injury and fatigue rhetoric by this point. People want a different story. Or they try to believe that a different tactical approach will somehow make the current group of players less tired and more able to win. Unfortunately, that just is not the case.

Tottenham’s loss to Leicester featured a starting line-up of 9 of the XI who played the majority of the Europa League match away against Hoffenheim three days ago.

James Maddison became unavailable at short notice. Yves Bissouma was named on the bench but was not fit enough to contribute. Pape Matar Sarr was not fit to play but was played anyway. Richarlison had to be withdrawn in an attempt to protect him from re-injuring himself.

Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski played like ghosts of themselves. A thin mirage of their true selves could occasionally be seen but struggled to compete physically and made numerous errors in possession.

It was yet another match that had to be played without any reinforcements from the transfer window. Somehow, a different result was expected.

Ange Postecoglou issues Spurs transfer update

With 7 days remaining for the club to seal any potential deals, Ange Postecoglou was asked whether this was a big week for the club and whether any new additions were imminent.

Postecoglou said (BBCSport 26/01/25 16:25): “Not that I’m aware of but the club are working hard to remedy that.”

When discussing the window further, Postecoglou added (FootballLondon): “I’ve said all along, the players need help and I’ve also said the club are working hard in that area to try to alleviate some of those problems, because Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. He obviously wasn’t fit.

“The players are going out there and giving everything they can because we can’t call off games. We’ve got another game in three days’ time that these players have to front up for.

“The injury situation will ease and I’m confident they will sort of help us. Even one more player coming in, just in the short term will give us an opportunity, at least to navigate these last 10 days, two weeks, of what’s been a really hard slog for this group of players.”

More can be expected of Postecoglou, but January’s fixtures were the boards to influence

While the lack of depth and correct squad profiles can be brought back to the summer window, it is maybe reasonable to expect Ange Postecoglou to have managed the squad better between August and December.

However, once the state of the team became clear with Romero, Van de Ven and Vicario all absent, it was apparent that the board had to act as quickly as possible to help in January.

The addition of Antonin Kinsky was beneficial, but with no outfield additions, the Spurs team has been left wanting. Arguably, Spurs have now dropped points in the Premier League which they could have secured with help from the board.
