Tottenham’s winter struggles and Wilson Odobert’s injury

When Wilson Odobert limped off the pitch during Tottenham Hotspur’s narrow 1-0 Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar on 24 October 2024, few could have predicted the extended absence that would follow.

Initially, Odobert’s injury—a right hamstring issue—was expected to sideline him for just a month, but the situation took a turn for the worse, as a setback in his recovery prompted the need for surgery in mid-November.

Since that setback, the 20-year-old has not played any more games for the Lilywhites for well over two months, but he did share an update on his recovery, in a post on Instagram where he was seen wearing football boots.

Wilson Odobert is nearing a return from injury

L’Équipe have now shared ecouraging news regarding Odobert’s recovery. The French outlet have now put a timeline on the winger’s return to action.

According to the publication, the forward is expected to return to training in early February and if all goes well, Odobert could be back in competitive action by March.

This will provide Tottenham Hotspur with a crucial boost as they enter the business end of the season.

Ange Postecoglou’s cautious approach and Tottenham’s outlook

While L’Équipe have shared encouraging news, back in November, Ange Postecoglou had addressed Odobert’s injury with an air of caution, admitting that the forward’s recovery would require patience.

Speaking about the situation, the Tottenham manager said: “No, no real time but it is significant, so he will be out. Again, because it is a reoccurrence we will have to be a bit conservative.

“I would say a similar timeframe to his last one, maybe a bit longer, but it is one of those where you do not want to put a timeframe on it because it will really depend how quickly he heals from it.”

As Postecoglou hinted, Odobert’s recovery depends on how quickly he heals, and if this latest report is accurate, then a return is imminent.
