Fabrizio Romano pours cold water on potential Tottenham transfer with latest update
Reports on Friday broke suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur were keen on a move for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey and now Fabrizio Romano has shared his latest understanding of the rumour.
Tottenham’s search for a forward continues
Despite their defence being hit hard with injuries, Tottenham have continued to push hard in their search for a forward.
Earlier in the winter window, the club was heavily linked with a move for Paris Saint Germain’s forward Kolo Muani, a player that they chased after till the very last moment before he ultimately joined Juventus.
Since then, the Lilywhites have been linked with so many other high-profile names like: Marcus Rashford, Tyler Dibling, Bryan Mbeumo and Ryan Cherki, yet no signings have been made.
While many will have hoped for the injuries plaguing the squad to have eased off – it has not. Instead, the club has lost more players to injury, with Solanke, Werner and Johnson now sidelined.
This crisis has only increased the club’s pursuit of a versatile forward, one capable of playing across the frontline. Earlier on Friday, Fabrizio Romano, had suggested that Brian Brobbey is being considered by Spurs as a potential signing, but who is he? let’s find out.
Romano has now shared his latest understanding of Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old and claimed that the North Londoners have cooled their interest.
Romano took to X to say: “Tottenham are not expected to proceed with any bid or formal contact for Brian Brobbey after asking for deal conditions.
“West Ham remain in contact and keen on getting it done but Ajax want obligation to buy included.”
The news will come as a relief to some Tottenham fans who had voiced their displeasure at being linked with a move for Brian Brobbey and instead wanted a higher calibre of target.
Who is Brian Brobbey?
Brian Brobbey age
Born on 1 February 2002, Brian Brobbey is 22 years old. His age positions him as a young player who is not yet in his prime, but still developing.
Brian Brobbey nationality
Brobbey is a Dutch professional born in the Netherlands, but also of Ghanaian descent. This means that the centre-forward has dual citizenship.
Brian Brobbey height
The 22-year-old is not the tallest of players as he is only 1.82 metres (5 ft 11 in). As a striker, he will almost always come across defenders that are taller than he is.
Brian Brobbey position
The Dutchman is a right footer, who prefers to play as a number nine in the centre-forward position. The 22-year-old is also capable of featuring on the wings.
Throughout his career, he has played a total of three games on the right, two on the left, one as an attacking midfielder and an outstanding 245 games from the centre-forward position.
Brian Brobbey stats
In his career so far, the Ajax forward has played a total of 251 games, he has scored 135 goals and assisted 44 times. Of the 135 goals, 132 have come from the centre-forward position, three have come from the right, two from the left and one from attacking midfield (transfermarket).
Brian Brobbey style of play
Brian Brobbey is known for his robust physical presence and speed on the ball. He excels in driving the ball forward quickly, making him a formidable force in offensive play.
However, his defensive contributions and involvement when out of possession are areas where he tends to fall short.
The 22-year-old is not known for his dedication to tracking back or pressing defenders, which is seen as a weakness in his overall game.
Was Brian Brobbey a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur?
Ultimately, his profile shows that he is capable of slotting into Ange Postecoglou’s system; however, his pressing weakness does not align well with the Australian’s philosophy.
We have seen so far that his forwards often defend from the front whether it is Solanke or Richarlison.
If Brobbey is not strong at going to press, then it really could disrupt the manager’s system. Despite his inability to press and his goal record this season is not the best.
