The season of struggles at Tottenham Hotspur

It has been an unrelenting campaign for everyone involved with Tottenham Hotspur, from Ange Postecoglou navigating his second season as manager to the players battling through adversity and the fans enduring the pain of poor results.

Injuries have compounded their problems, leaving the squad threadbare and unable to consistently deliver performances of the calibre expected at the north London club.

This dire situation is reflected in their league standing, as Tottenham find themselves languishing in 15th place after 22 games—a position unfamiliar to a team accustomed to challenging for European spots.

One has to cast their mind back over a decade to find the last time Spurs finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Amidst this disappointment, criticism has been aimed at both players and the manager, with Heung-min Son, the captain, facing his fair share.

Heung-min Son’s message to the fans

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s hard-fought victory over Hoffenheim where Heung-min Son bagged a brace, the South Korean winger took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with the fans.

He offered a glimpse into the mindset within the dressing room. His words encapsulated both the difficulties the team has faced and the determination to rise above them.

In his post, Son wrote: “The senior players are taking ownership, and the young lads are handling big responsibility. It’s been a difficult moment, but the way to get right is to play right. Next up. Let’s go. #COYS”

Ange Postecoglou’s take on Son’s display

Ange Postecoglou was quick to commend his captain after the match, acknowledging the significance of both his performance and his response to recent criticism.

The Tottenham boss, speaking to the media, said: “I thought Sonny led from the front tonight with his football but also with his general actions and most importantly the goals. Look, we are all copping stick at the moment.”
