Postecoglou reveals how long Spurs will be without Dominic Solanke
Tottenham lost their starting striker for the second time this season in the build-up to the game against Everton. Dominic Solanke has proven to be invaluable for Postecoglou this season and any time out will be a significant loss.
Dominic Solanke was missed against Everton
Reports broke on Saturday night that Dominic Solanke would not be available to play in Tottenham’s Premier League fixture against Everton.
This last-minute change threw Spurs into disarray with a change in formation and Heung-min Son being utilised as a striker while Richarlison builds his match fitness.
Son is not a suitable striker replacement and Tottenham sorely missed Solanke‘s pressing, hold-up play and defensive work rate against Everton.
How long will Dominic Solanke be out injured?
With there being concerns over how Dominic Solanke sustained an injury and what the timeline of his return may look like, Ange Postecoglou was asked about the striker’s absence in his post-match press conference.
Postecoglou said (FootballLondon): “It was just one of those things. He went to shoot on his own and twisted it. We don’t think it’s serious but it’ll be a few weeks.”
Even a few weeks out will see Solanke miss Tottenham’s important Europa League fixtures as well as the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
Tottenham have to bring in a forward in January
While Spurs cannot change their Europa League squad until after the group stage has been concluded, they simply have to sign cover for their forward positions as soon as possible.
Richarlison does not have the match fitness to play twice a week and will need to be relied on in the Europa matches. Will Lankshear has not yet earned the trust of the Spurs staff to start important games so Tottenham have to find solutions in the transfer market.
With Brennan Johnson also absent, cover in the wide positions needs to be considered as well. If there is any hope of pursuing success this season, Tottenham need to act fast to support the team.
