An acid test for the Tottenham hierarchy in January

While Spurs have a solid starting eleven when everyone is fit, the club’s injury crisis has exposed the lack of depth in the squad.

The club cannot point the finger at bad luck as it has been clear right from the start of last season that Ange Postecoglou‘s high-intensity style of play leads to more muscle injuries.

The club’s hierarchy thus face a big test in January and the supporters will expect several new faces to arrive through the door, given that the schedule does not get any easier over the next two months.

Fabrizio Romano expects Tottenham transfer activity

Romano, who has his finger on the pulse of all the latest transfer developments around Europe, believes that Spurs will be very busy across the January transfer window.

He revealed that the Lilywhites are now running the rule over several targets, suggesting that as many as three new players could arrive at Hotspur Way this month.

Romano told GiveMeSport: “They have already told the manager that they will do something. So I expect January to be busy for Spurs. I think it could be two signings, maybe three, I’m not sure, but it will depend on opportunities.

“But Tottenham are exploring options, Tottenham are actively working on scouting and following players. So I think for Tottenham it will be a busy month.”

Will Tottenham focus on quantity over quality?

The Times reported earlier this week that Tottenham’s priority in January would be to strengthen their squad by signing a number of squad players.

The report asserted that Spurs are likely to put off major signings until next summer as their top targets would be difficult to get in January.

Cynics would suggest that part of the reason for that strategy is that the Spurs hierarchy may not want to back Postecoglou with any more big-money moves as his future at the club is not secure at the moment.
