Finance expert says potential boardroom change at Spurs could have a major impact
Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed that Daniel Levy will not take long to make a key appointment after an important position became vacant.
Todd Kline left Tottenham to take up role at Tottenham
Earlier this year, Todd Kline left his role as Tottenham‘s club’s chief commercial officer – a position he held for two years – after accepting an offer to join rivals Chelsea.
The American executive has been on gardening leave over the last few months and it was reported earlier this week that Kline had officially begun working at the West London club.
Journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed the former Spurs man is now working under the title of ‘President, Commercial’ at Chelsea.
Tottenham are expected to announce a new CCO
Kieran Maguire believes Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the decision-makers in N17 will not waste too much time in filling the role vacated by Kline.
The finance expert claimed that Spurs will turn to an experienced executive and that the newcomer will likely have a place on the Tottenham board.
Maguire told TBR Football: “Commercial revenue is one area where clubs have an element of control.
“Therefore, having someone with experience in the role and who can communicate at ‘C’ level is essential.
“I would imagine the commercial director will have a board position because the decisions they make are significant financially in the long term.”
Can Tottenham find a stadium naming rights partner?
One of Kline’s remits at Spurs was to find a naming rights partner for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which he failed to do.
Maguire believes that Levy will be keen to agree on a naming rights deal as soon as possible it could significantly boost the club’s coffers.
When asked about the new COO’s challenge of finding a naming rights partner, Maguire said: “If you’re signing a stadium naming rights deal or shirt deal, these tend to be long-term arrangements.
“Because of that, they have ramifications for the club for many years, so you need someone who can oversee that strategy.
“For a club like Spurs, who have spectacularly increased their commercial revenue since moving to the new stadium, commercial income can have a dramatic effect on the budget and therefore results on the pitch.”
