Brennan Johnson over the moon for Spurs star he thinks ‘goes under the radar’
Brennan Johnson is over the moon for one Tottenham player, who the winger felt got his just rewards against Aston Villa for the amount he contributes to the side.
Tottenham star back on the scoresheet
No matter how well strikers play, the reality is that they are always judged by goals, which is why it was crucial for Dominic Solanke to get a couple of goals against the Villans.
The 26-year-old showed his goalscorer’s instinct with both of the finishes, with his chip for the first one, in particular, being a thing of beauty.
The centre-forward now has five goals and two assists to his name across all competitions, and he will have his eyes set on outdoing last season’s tally, given the volume of chances that Ange Postecoglou‘s men create.
Brennan Johnson delighted for Dominic Solanke
Johnson pointed out that the Spurs newcomer hardly has any weaknesses in his game and spoke in glowing terms about the work he does for the side off the ball.
The Wales international admitted that he and his teammates were over the moon that the Englishman got the goals that his all-round play deserved.
The winger told Spurs Play: “We’re all buzzing for Dom because it kind of goes under the radar how hard Dom works for us, and we’re so thankful for how hard he works and the pressing he does.
“And then on the ball, not just goals, but he can hold it up, he can dribble, he’s quick, he’s strong, powerful, he’s such a good player.
“We need to play and when we do go a little bit longer, it’s more of a pass, it’s not really a long ball he can hold it. But then, when the ball goes into the box… he’s a fox in the box as well so I really think he showed everything today [Sunday].”
Solanke is the perfect penalty box striker for Spurs
What Tottenham needed was not a striker who can net screamers or score from low xG chances, but rather someone who is a poacher inside the box.
Given the number of times Spurs get into the box and the volume of crosses they put in, they need someone who is sharp with his movements and an instinctual finisher, which is exactly what Solanke is.
