Will Lankshear pens apology to Spurs fans after red card nightmare
Will Lankshear takes to social media to react to his first senior goal for Tottenham against Galatasaray, as well as his nightmare red card.
Bittersweet night for Will Lankshear
Lankshear was handed his second senior start by Ange Postecoglou in the cauldron that is RAMS Park on Thursday, and it was undoubtedly the most intimidating atmosphere the youngster would have experienced.
The 19-year-old certainly was not fazed by the occasion and he must have been on cloud nine when he netted the equaliser in 18 minutes to silence the raucous home crowd.
However, unfortunately, things soured for the teenager in the second half as he got his second yellow after a rash challenge on the hour mark, with the Tottenham academy graduate looking distraught as he walked off the pitch.
Lankshear reacts to goal and red card
Lankshear has now taken to Instagram to react to what happened in Istanbul, apologising to his teammates and supporters for letting them down.
The striker also admitted that it was a dream come true to net his first goal for the team he grew up supporting and vowed to learn from his experience.
His message reads: “Firstly I’d like to apologise for letting my teammates and the fans down yesterday, I will learn from this experience and I am determined to keep on working hard and improving my game.
“On a more positive note, yesterday I scored my first professional goal which I have been dreaming about as a little boy, I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me along my journey and hopefully this is the first of many for Tottenham. A massive thank you to all the travelling fans who came out yesterday to support. On to the next game.”
Lankshear will emerge from this mentally stronger
There is no doubt that the Tottenham players and the coaching staff would have got around Lankshear after the way things ended for him at Galatasaray.
The striker will undoubtedly emerge from this experience much stronger mentally and this is certainly not the last we have seen of him in the Europa League this season.
