Dominic Solanke talks England and Tuchel after his latest call-up
Dominic Solanke had made an admission about being part of the England squad earlier this week, and the Tottenham centre-forward has got his wish.
New manager did not pick this squad
It was announced last month that Thomas Tuchel had agreed a deal to be the England boss until the 2026 World Cup, but the German’s contract officially only starts on January 1, 2025 (Sky Sports).
It was reported earlier this week that Tuchel will not have any influence on the selection for England‘s upcoming Nations League matches (Daily Mail).
Since announcing the squad, interim head coach Lee Carsley has since confirmed that he did not speak to Tuchel about his selection (Guardian).
Dominic Solanke makes the England squad
Dominic Solanke will be delighted to find out that he has kept his place in the England squad for their upcoming Nations League clashes against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
The centre-forward won his second cap last month in the Three Lions’ 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley, and he will be looking to add to his tally over the next few weeks.
Solanke was asked about his England prospects and Tuchel’s arrival on Wednesday, before the squad announcement, and he admitted that he was desperate to keep his place in the set-up after having worked so hard to get back in.
The Tottenham striker said earlier this week (via Football.London): “Since the last camp, we had the news that the new manager will be taking over. I’m not sure he’s going to be there, he’s going to be taking over from next year.
“That’s something to look forward to for the country. On a personal note, I’d love to be there again [in the squad]. I worked hard to get back there so it’s definitely an aim of mine to stay there.”
Solanke is a good fit for Thomas Tuchel’s set-up
Irrespective of the formation that England play under Tuchel, we know that the German likes his sides to play with intensity both in and out of possession.
The former Chelsea boss will thus see Solanke as a valuable option, with the Tottenham man having a good chance of being Harry Kane‘s main understudy over the next couple of years.
