Impressive Heung-min Son stat eclipses Defoe and Gareth Bale combined
One impressive Heung-min Son stat has emerged this week, which eclipses that of two Tottenham legends – Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale – combined.
Heung-min Son is one of Tottenham’s biggest legends
Heung-min Son is now in the legacy-building phase of his career, with records tumbling one after the other in a Tottenham shirt.
The South Korean is still as good as he ever was, showing no obvious signs of decline. Not only does he instil fear into the opposition, but he also adds a lot to this young Spurs side in terms of leadership.
His value to the side was once again underlined on Sunday, with the Tottenham captain setting up the equaliser with an outstanding cross and sending the home side on their way to a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Son’s ridiculous numbers
With that assist against Villa, Son now has an unbelievable 188 goal contributions (123 goals and 65 assists) in 310 matches.
According to StatsMuseFC, that is more than what two Spurs legends, Gareth Bale and Jermaine Defoe, got for the Lilywhites, combined.
In terms of all competitions, Son now has 252 goal contributions for Spurs (165 goals and 87 assists) in 417 matches for the club over his nine-and-a-half-year spell in North London.
Son will be desperate for a trophy
While these numbers are eye-water and seal his status as a Tottenham and Premier League legend, the forward would want to win a trophy to put the cherry on top.
No one in world football deserves silverware more than the 32-year-old, given the loyalty he has shown and his sustained greatness. Nothing would delight Spurs fans more than seeing Son proudly hoist a trophy as captain.
