Spurs man’s redemption

Ahead of the summer, many would have expected Djed Spence to be one of the first players to leave the club, particularly given that Ange Postecoglou had shipped him out on loan as soon as he arrived through the door last year.

However, the 24-year-old managed to win over the Australian and his coaching staff and rescue his Tottenham career, hardly putting a foot wrong every time he has got an opportunity this campaign.

The full-back was rewarded with a new deal earlier this month, putting pen to paper on a contract that runs until 2028.

Djed Spence’s confession about Spurs move

The former Middlesbrough man has now opened up on his emotions when he first made the move from the Riverside Stadium to N17 back in 2022.

The Englishman admitted that while things have not been all smooth sailing at Tottenham, he is looking forward to what the future holds.

Spence told Tottenham’s official website: “I cried when I first heard the news that I was going to sign for the club. The journey is never easy.

“So when you get to a big stage in your career when you’re signing for a club of the size of Tottenham, it felt like all the hard work to get to that point had paid off but I was very emotional with tears of joy.

“To summarise my time here, it’s been difficult, but I’m by no means finished and I feel like the best is yet to come.”

Spence’s grand ambitions

The full-back has been a bit unfortunate not to get more game time this season, with Tottenham’s lack of club-trained and homegrown players meaning that Postecoglou was forced to leave him out of the Europa League squad for the group stages.

Spence is certainly very ambitious about what he and his teammates can achieve this season, setting his sights on winning silverware.

The defender added: “My ambition is to win something, of course. That’s the team’s goal, that’s the manager’s goal so I want to win something here.

“It could be Carabao Cup, Premier League, FA Cup or Europa League, you never say no to anything, and as long as you’re in the competition you always have a chance of winning.”
