It looks like Tottenham Hotspur may be set for a transfer battle with Napoli, with Antonio Conte keen on beating his former club to one of the Serie A’s best young wide players.
Tottenham keen on strengthening at left-back
Spurs are thought to be intent on strengthening at left-back in January and it has been reported over recent weeks that they have set their sights on Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu (Planeta Lecce).
The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract with Lecce earlier this month but it was reported that this is not going to stop Spurs or other suitors from making a move for the youngster (FiorentinaNews).
In fact, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) asserted two weeks ago that Tottenham were at the front of the queue to sign the wing-back in the winter.
Antonio Conte wants to get one over Tottenham
However, it has now been reported by Il Mattino, (as relayed by CalcioNapoli24) that Napoli are expected to battle the Lilywhites for Dorgu’s signature.
The outlet points out that Conte was pictured whispering into the 19-year-old’s years during the Serie A leaders’ 1-0 win over Lecce last weekend.
The report states that Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, had already enquired about the full-back’s availability in the summer, and the Partenopei could reignite their interest in the player.
How much will Patrick Dorgu cost?
This latest report by Il Mattino claims that even though Dorgu has just signed a new deal with Lecce, he could be available for a cut-price fee of just €15m (£12.5m) in January.
However, this contradicts the information that was carried last week by The Mirror who asserted that the Denmark international’s price has gone up following his contract extension.
The publication asserted that Tottenham would have to make an offer of over £30m to convince Lecce to part ways with their emerging star.
