Spurs Supporters’ Trust contact the club over disappointing ticket decision
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust has expressed its displeasure regarding the club’s ticketing policy for the upcoming Europa League games. They confirm that they have sought clarification regarding the same.
Ticket pricing at Spurs is a contentious issue
There has been a lot of displeasure among the Spurs fan base over the decisions made regarding ticket pricing and the removal of senior concessions over the last few months.
The latest concern for the fans is Tottenham’s decision to price the Europa League clash against AS Roma on November 28 as a Category C fixture, thus meaning that the ticket will cost more than the ones against Qarabag and Alkmaar.
Some supporters are also not pleased with the club’s move to put the tickets for the FC Elfsborg game on January 30, 2025, on sale from this Wednesday, a full three months before the clash.
THST express concerns and ask for an explanation
THST have pointed out that Tottenham’s decision to increase the ticket prices for the AS Roma game indicates that the club see the opponents as being more important than the round.
The Trust have asked Spurs to remain consistent and offer cheaper tickets if Tottenham draw substandard opponents in the knockout stage of the competition.
They have also questioned why the tickets for the FC Elfsborg game are going on sale so early, thus forcing supporters to cancel automatic payments.
Their statement reads: “We have this evening contacted the club to ask further questions about its Europa League pricing for the game against AS Roma and the on-sale dates for season ticket holders and members for the game against Elfsborg.
“As we know the Roma game is a group match set at Category C level pricing. We have told the club we will now expect cheaper pricing if we draw a ‘smaller’ team should we make it to the latter stages of the competition. We have advised the club to be careful when appearing to give the impression that the opponent is more important than the round. This must now be applied fairly should we move through the competition to the latter stages.
“With regards to the FC Elfsborg game on January 30, 2025. Many season ticket holders are correctly furious with the Club’s plans to place tickets on sale three months before the game on October 30. Many are now following advice on how to cancel automatic payments for both games – see our earlier tweet.
“We can only assume the tickets for the FC Elfsborg game are going on sale early for non-football-related reasons so we have asked for the thinking to be explained here. Again, we are incredibly concerned with any decision the club makes that leads to so many supporters looking into cancelling automatic payments.
“We have asked if this a precedent the club really wants to set. When we have a response, we shall update THST members and Spurs fans accordingly. The most important consideration should be a home ground that is full of committed fans getting behind the team and willing our progress to the next round.”
Spurs running the risk of having empty seats
By making such shortsighted decisions regarding ticket prices, Tottenham are risking the possibility of having thousands or even tens of thousands of empty seats for some of these European fixtures, which will not be a good look for the club.
The low attendance against Alkmaar should raise some alarm bells regarding the prices and the way fans are treated.
The Spurs hierarchy also run the risk of further cementing the growing feeling among a section of the fan base that they do not care for the supporters and are only concerned about the bottom line.
