Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Man City – Timo Werner scores a goal

0

Tottenham Hotspur are taking on Manchester City tonight in the Carabao Cup fourth round, and this is how we rated the players after the first 45 minutes.

After scraping past Championship outfit Coventry City in the last round, Spurs are looking to keep their cup run going as Ange Postecoglou hunts for a trophy, but they’ll have to get past Pep Guardiola’s Man City side first.

The score at half-time stands at 2-1 to Tottenham, with goals from Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr giving Tottenham the advantage. Here are the player ratings from a brilliant first half for Spurs.

Tottenham player ratings at half-time

Guglielmo Vicario: Barely had anything to do. So much so, it almost feels unfair to rate him, but he did everything he needed to do. 6.

Archie Gray: Matheus Nunes has kept the youngster busy, and in truth, Gray has been second best in that contest. Hasn’t been able to push on into more advanced areas, which is a shame. Lost his man for City’s goal, too. 5.

Cristian Romero: Had far less to do than his defensive teammates so far tonight, but has cleaned up a couple of dangerous situations, and made one or two really nice progressive passes through the lines, too. 7.

Radu Dragusin: A really solid first-half display from a player desperate to make an impact. Dealt with everything that came his way, and put the miles in to cover and close down City at every opportunity. 8.

Micky van de Ven: Had to leave the field after just 13 minutes when he picked up a hamstring injury. It would be unfair to judge him on that outing. N/A.

Pape Matar Sarr: Has been a little clumsy in the middle of the park, and has a booking to his name after a number of poor tackles. We can allow that, though, after his amazing long-range strike doubled Tottenham’s lead. 7.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Made some really important tackles all over the pitch to break up City attacks, and has been dictating the flow of the game with neat passes into the final third. 8.

Dejan Kulusevski: Played an incredible ball into Werner for the first goal, showing his impeccable vision once more. As energetic and influential as always, and a constant nuisance for City’s defenders. 8.

Brennan Johnson: A quiet half for Brennan Johnson, with much of Tottenham’s play going down the left instead. Needs to find a way into the game or face getting replaced soon. 5.

Dominic Solanke: A hard-working display as always, with some nice hold-up play. Like Johnson, needs to find a way to assert himself on the game more, as he’s not really getting the service he needs so far. 6.

Timo Werner: Took his goal really, really well despite all the criticism that has come his way of late. Has made a few really good runs, too, but just needs to calm down when it comes to the final ball. 7.

Destiny Udogie: Brought on to replace the injured Micky van de Ven after 13 minutes. Did well to keep Savinho at bay, and offered neat link-up play with Werner down the left. 7.
