Spurs fans are waiting with bated breath as the situation surrounding Amanda Staveley’s proposed takeover at Tottenham Hotspur continues to develop, and now, it seems the woman herself has been speaking to those around her regarding her plans.

Amanda Staveley has her sights set on Spurs

Staveley was instrumental in arranging the Saudi Public Investment Fund takeover at Newcastle United, but left the club at the end of last season.

She has since been rumoured to be seeking a new investment opportunity, and Tottenham are high on the list of potential new clubs for her to become involved in.

According to a report from The Athletic, Staveley and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy are close friends with a mutual respect. Staveley is thought to have funds from investors in the Middle East and the USA, and would be looking for a minority stake in Tottenham.

However, in that same report, it is suggested sources at the club regard the rumours as “just noise” and it remains to be seen whether there is actually any substance to the talk.

Does Amanda Stavely have the funds ready?

According to journalist Matt Slater on The Athletic FC Podcast, Staveley has been very open about her interest and intentions to get together the funds to spearhead a move for Spurs, but the matter is a little complex.

He said: “She is certainly out there and she’s not being particularly private about it. She’s looking to raise more money for her next football venture and that is Spurs. Now, none of that is in dispute. She’s talking to everybody. Talking to Qataris, as I said, Saudis, North Americans.

“She’s trying to put together a fund. She’s running around telling people she has that fund. I again speak to people in the industry all the time who say that’s not quite true. She might have some expressions of interest, but it will be very much a sort of, ‘let’s see who else you get. Let’s see what sort of price you get out of Daniel. Let’s see where we go with this’ situation.”

A long process

This kind of thing could take months to thrash out, and I can’t see anything substantial happening until the end of the season. We all know how much Daniel Levy likes to take his time to negotiate any kind of deal, and this is arguably the biggest he has faced so far in his time at Spurs, so he will be in no rush.
