Tottenham purred in the second half

While Spurs did not quite come out of the blocks the way Ange Postecoglou would have hoped, they clicked into gear in the latter part of the first period and absolutely blew West Ham away at the start of the second-half.

The Lilywhites essentially had the result sealed by the hour mark, allowing the Spurs boss to take off key players for some much-needed rest.

The goal that Tottenham conceded early in the game was the only blemish on what was otherwise a perfect afternoon for the club.

Glenn Hoddle makes claim about Dejan Kulusevski

Hoddle pointed out that other than the second-half showing against Brighton, there has been a lot to be encouraged about with Spurs’ performances of late.

He singled out Dejan Kulusevski for praise, suggesting that the Swede put in his best-ever performance in a Tottenham shirt.

The Spurs legend told TNT Sports following the 4-1 win: “They played like they did in the first half against Brighton. It was only one half where they let themselves down.

“At the end of the day they needed a result and it’s a very positive one. They were on the front foot. Kulusevksi was outstanding, the best game I’ve seen him play in a Tottenham shirt.”

Dejan Kulusevski goes from strength to strength

It feels like Kulusevski is now raising the bar higher and higher every week, with the 24-year-old coming into his own since being permanently moved to the number eight role.

Ange Postecoglou even suggested in his post-match press conference that there is a lot more to come from the former Juventus man in his new role.

When asked about Kulusevski helping his side win the midfield battle, the Tottenham boss said (via Football.London): “Yeah he has been doing that all year and the evolution of Deki as a player, that is now his role not just for us but he’s playing there for the national team too. He’s got this ability to get out of tight spaces and he’s a really strong runner. He is relentless in his running capacity and he also has the quality.

“In that final third, I still think we can get more goals out of him, more assists but he is constantly in those threatening areas and he’s been outstanding for us all year. Today he had to show some other facets of the game, some defensive work as well which I thought he did well but I thought the whole team did well.”
