Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski in a league of his own for PL running stat

The stats on Dejan Kulusevski’s sprints and his total distance covered this season are staggering, with the Tottenham star running far ahead of the Premier League competition.

Dejan Kulusevski’s biggest strength

While Kulusevski possesses many impressive attributes, including his strength, excellent balance and a cultured left foot, his best attribute is undoubtedly his engine.

The Swede possesses the stamina of a long-distance runner, being capable of sprinting up and down the pitch for the whole 90 minutes, which is why he is a nightmare to play against.

Kulusevski’s numbers

Using stats from Opta, BBC Sport have revealed that the Tottenham man has completed 142 sprints in total, which is the fifth highest in the Premier League.

But here’s the catch: The four players above him have all nearly played every minute of every game for their sides while Kulusevski was benched for Tottenham’s opening game against Leicester City, coming on as a substitute.

Further, despite not starting every league game for Spurs this season, the 24-year-old has covered the most distance in the Tottenham squad (74 km).

Kulusevski is in a league of his own

However, when the distance covered is calculated per 90 minutes, no one comes close to the Spurs attacker.

The player in second place, West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek, averages nearly half a kilometre less than Kulusevski per 90 minutes, with the former Juventus man thus being in a league of his own.

The Sweden international has also clocked the two highest distances by any player in a single game this season, running 13.2 km in the 3-0 win against Manchester United and 12.6 km in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Brentford.
