Three players who can really impress Postecoglou at Hotspur Way this week – opinion

While most of the Tottenham Hotspur squad are away on international duty this week, there are a handful of players still at the club who will be getting in extra sessions with Ange Postecoglou. Here are three stars we think could have an important week ahead.

James Maddison needs to be a leader

After the dismal defeat against Brighton, there has been a really clear call for leadership among the Spurs squad. James Maddison has been very vocal about the manner of that loss and how it can fuel the team moving forward, so now he needs to walk the walk.

With that disappointment, plus yet another snub at international level, the midfielder will be desperate to prove himself and can effectively become the man to embody everything Ange Postecoglou demands from the team this week. When the rest of the squad return from international duty, Maddison has to be the one to show them the way.

Djed Spence pushing for starting role

One player whose place in the starting line up must surely be at risk after that horror show at Brighton is Destiny Udogie, and Djed Spence can capitalise on that this week. The defender has impressed everyone at the club with his application and attitude this season, and he now has a really good chance to go the extra mile and make his case for a starting spot in the team.

He’s looked really solid every time he has played this term, and with the extra time on the training pitch this week, Spence can catch Postecoglou’s eye and prove it’s time to trust him.

Richarlison must prove his fitness

Injury issues are really starting to pile up for Richarlison now, but the good news is he is expected to be back in full training this week, and it could be a very important week for the Brazilian. The fact of the matter is, if he cannot prove he is reliable and ready to go this time, Richarlison may well end up being sold either in January or next summer, as Postecoglou needs a dependable cover for Dominic Solanke.

We all know how passionate and hard-working Richarlison is, and he will be incredibly hungry to get back to his best as soon as possible. There’s no doubt his manager will see that work ethic this week.
