Under Ange Postecoglou, Pedro Porro has exceeded all expectations and continues to flourish in the Premier League. Now, fresh data looking at full-backs across the English top flight and indeed, the rest of Europe, points to the Spaniard being the best there is in his role.

Pedro Porro leads the way in six key areas

After a shaky start to his Spurs career, Pedro Porro has really found his feet in England now and is a key part of Ange Postecoglou‘s team.

He’s had a great start to the new season, and there are statistics to prove just how well Porro is doing for Spurs right now, when comparing him to other full-backs in the league and across Europe.

DataMB revealed Porro leads the way in the Premier League when it comes to three key metrics: He has made more progressive passes, key passes, and took more shots than any full-back (left or right) in the top division.

Not only that, but Porro is also number one in Europe for full-backs when it comes to crosses, passes to the penalty area, and deep completions.

He’s improved on last season

The Spurs man had a good season last term, but all signs point to him improving this time around in a number of areas.

As you can see from the chart below, Porro is far more effective in winning duels this season, and he’s also made great strides in terms of carrying the ball, his cross-success rate, and his progressive passes.

Porro’s defensive actions and expected assists are about the same as last year. The one area he hasn’t improved in at the moment are in aerial duels.

Only Trent Alexander Arnold comes close to Pedro Porro

I’ve said it already recently, I think Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the Premier League. The only player near him in that contest would be Trent Alexander-Arnold, but honestly, Porro offers more defensively, and he’s just as effective going forward, too.

Trent is an easy answer, but if people actually watch the two players and look at the data on them both, it’s clear who is performing better over the last 12 months.
