Dwight Yorke makes a bullish statement about Tottenham and Man United
Dwight Yorke believes Tottenham are not ahead of Manchester United in any shape or form at the moment, insisting that his former side have a better chance of finishing in the top four this season.
Spurs have four points from four
Spurs have had a disappointing start to the season, having won one and lost two of their opening four games.
The fact that his result follows an extremely poor run towards the end of last season has alarm bells ringing in N17, with many starting to wonder if this project under Ange Postecoglou is headed the same way as the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
The Australian coach is expected to deliver a top-four finish this season after guiding Spurs to fifth place last time out but it already looks like a major uphill battle for the side.
Who will finish higher, Spurs or Man United?
Yorke believes that as things stand, the Red Devils are better equipped to qualify for the Champions League than Tottenham.
He told BEIN Sports about United’s top four hopes: “It is a good question. I think Man United has got a good chance”
When the host, Richard Keys, suggested to Yorke that Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are all better placed to finish in the top four, Yorke responded: “I disagree with you on two of them. If you put Chelsea and Tottenham ahead of Man United, that’s not happening.
“There’s no way Tottenham are ahead of Manchester United, no way. As bad as we may be right now, current position, Tottenham is not ahead of Man United, in any department. Well, beautiful stadium, I’ll give you that.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Last season’s league position would suggest that Tottenham are indeed a better side than Man Utd.
Even though the results have been poor this season, I see plenty of evidence in our performances to be convinced that we will once again be in and around the top four at the end of the campaign.
