Real Madrid like the look of Cristian Romero

It is revealed that Madrid are already started working on potential defensive recruits even though the summer transfer window just recently closed, with the La Liga giants keen on adding a top centre-back to their squad.

As a result, Calafat travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday to watch the North London derby, with the scout not just there to watch Romero but also Arsenal’s William Saliba.

It is explained that Los Blancos believe that both players have ‘enormous potential’ and could quite easily fit into Madrid’s current project.

Romero and Saliba will not be easy to sign

However, it is pointed out that both Romero and Saliba are contracted to their respective clubs until 2027 and that Spurs and Arsenal could demand around €100m for their players.

The publication adds that the Spanish side will not consider spending such a high amount on defensive addition.

The report does not reveal how much Madrid would be willing to put on the table for a player of Romero’s calibre, so it remains to be seen whether they place a bid next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

With rumours doing the rounds that Romero is not particularly keen to start discussions over a new contract, it is quite possible that the centre-back could be angling for a move to Madrid next summer if Spurs fail to win a trophy this season and finish outside the top four again.

Whatever the case, Madrid would have to pay a huge fee to sign him though – that is for certain.
