Spurs are hoping Pochettino could do them a favour with potential new signing

GiveMeSport claim that Tottenham are hopeful Mauricio Pochettino will help Johnny Cardoso develop into more of a complete midfielder after the Argentine took over as USA’s head coach.

Spurs have an option to sign Cardoso

As part of the deal to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, Spurs acquired an option to sign Cardoso for around £25m, with the option only though to be valid for a two-week period in next summer’s transfer window (The Telegraph).

GiveMeSport now claim that Spurs believe that their decision will pay off handsomely, particularly now that Pochettino has been put in charge of the United States national team.

It is said that Ange Postecoglou sees Cardoso as someone who can compete with Yves Bissouma for a place in Tottenham’s starting eleven next season and that the Australian is hoping that the new USA boss is able to get the best out of the midfielder.

Could Pochettino help Spurs with Cardoso?

The report says that Spurs will keep an eye on the Real Betis man’s performance for club and country over the next 12 months before deciding whether to pounce on him next summer.

The outlet explains that many key personnel working at Hotspur Way rate Pochettino very highly as a tactician and believe that he can get the best out of Cardoso.

The Lilywhites are said to be hopeful that working with the 52-year-old can help prepare the former Internacional man for the challenges of Premier League football if he does make the switch next summer.
