Tottenham Hotspur may have to make do without Rodrigo Bentancur for an extended period if the charges against him by the FA are upheld.

What did Bentancur do wrong?

Bentancur is now facing the prospect of being suspended for a considerable amount of time after the midfielder learned on Thursday that the FA had charged him with an “aggravated breach” of its rules for the comments he made about Spurs teammate, Son Heung-min.

The 27-year-old had suggested in the interview in reference to the South Korean that he and his cousins “all look the same”, which he later apologised for, admitting that it was a “bad joke” (talkSPORT).

Although his apology was accepted by Son (ESPN) and the pair had put the incident behind them, the FA conducted their own analysis and decided to charge the Spurs star.

Which matches would Bentancur miss?

It was revealed by Football.London that if the charge is upheld, the Uruguayan could be banned for six to 12 matches, which would undoubtedly come as a major blow to Ange Postecoglou’s men.

With Bentancur having until September 19 to respond, here are the Premier League matches he could miss if the charges are upheld and he was handed a 12-match ban:

9. Tottenham vs Fulham – November 30
10. Bournemouth vs Tottenham – December 3
11. Tottenham vs Chelsea – December 7
12. Tottenham vs Southampton – December 14

This is only if Tottenham does not go past the third round of the Carabao Cup. If the Lilywhites beat Coventry City, Bentancur could miss the rourth round clash instead of one of the Premier League matches.

This suspension is only applicable to domestic games, which means Bentacnur will be allowed to play all the Europa League matches.
