Postecoglou has come under fire following Spurs’ poor start

An infuriating home defeat to Arsenal has made Tottenham’s start to the season their worst for nine years, with the result flaring the tempers of some Spurs fans, many of whom have directed their anger at manager, Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou has remained a confident figure despite Tottenham’s lacklustre start, insisting to Football.London, “we are a team that is progressing in many areas.”

It appears the former Celtic manager is also keen on continuing his record of clinching silverware in the second season of each club he has managed.

Postecoglou believes Spurs can still win silverware this season

After such a disappointing flurry of results to start the season, Sky Sports questioned Postecoglou as to whether he feels his side can compete for silverware.

The journalist asked Postecoglou: “You said at the start of the season the first campaign was really about setting principles, getting your message across, the second campaign you usually win, are you seeing enough in this side to make you think that they will be a side that can win? I’m talking silverware- competing right at the top?”

A question that Postecoglou responded boldly to, stating: “Absolutely. And I think I’ll correct myself – I don’t usually win things – I always win things in my second year, nothings changed”

When questioned on the statement as to whether he believes he can still win silverware with this side, Postecoglou doubled down, reiterating: “Well, I just sort of said it now, I don’t say things unless I believe them”.

Spurs Web opinion

Postecoglou’s record of winning silverware in his second season is an impressive stat that is inarguable with every Spurs fan hoping, as Postecoglou clearly believes, that he can repeat such success at Tottenham.

The Spurs manager will need to find a way to make things ‘click’ as he seemingly has with his other sides though with Tottenham still looking not entirely functional and a way off the level that we have seen glimpses of under the Australian.
