Alasdair Gold reveals interesting thing he has heard about George Abbott at Spurs

Alasdair Gold says that George Abbott is one to keep an eye on for Tottenham as the young midfielder is developing faster than anyone at the club expected.

Abbott was a key part of the Under-21’s Premier League 2 title-winning campaign and the defensive midfielder has been quite impressive at Hotspur Way over the last 12 months.

The 19-year-old has been sent out on loan to League Two Side Notts County this season and thus has a chance to show Ange Postecoglou and the coaches at Spurs what he can do in senior football.

The teenager has made a fine start to his spell at Meadow Lane, delivering a superb display for his side in their 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley last week.

Abbott is progressing faster than expected

While many Spurs fans might be keeping a closer eye on how the likes of Alfie Devine, Jamie Donley and Ashley Phillips get on in their loan spells, Gold suggested that Abbott may surprise a few with his progression.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest podcast: “George Abbott has played a couple of games now for Notts County and made his first start there the other day. He’s very much impressing everyone there.

“He’s only 19 years old, but he’s a Spurs under-21 skipper and very versatile. He can play pretty much anywhere across your midfield or back line.

“Towards the end of last season, I was told to keep an eye on George Abbott because he’s developed quicker than anyone expected.”

If Abbot continues in the same fashion that he has started off at Notts County, it would not be surprising if Tottenham recall him and loan him out to a team playing in a higher division for the second half of the season.
