Tottenham fell to a narrow defeat against Arsenal

Spurs hosted Arsenal this afternoon in what was the first North London derby of the 2024/25 season with Ange Postecoglou’s side handed extra hope through the absence of Gunners duo, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Despite Arsenal’s depleted starting XI, Arteta’s side emerged victorious through a 64th-minute header by Brazilian centre-back Gabriel.

The Brazilian’s goal marked yet another set piece goal conceded by the Lilywhites – infuriating many fans who believe set pieces are becoming a glaring fragility in Spurs’ game.

Tottenham’s performance mirrored the same old pattern we have seen from many of the club’s opening games of the season, dominating possession, corners and shots on target, only to rue missed chances and leave the game empty-handed.

Another ‘frustrating’ performance from Tottenham

After the loss, Tottenham forward, Heung-Min Son spoke to Sky Sports, admitting his frustrations at his side’s second loss of the season.

He said: “We dominated the game, the football was there we just conceded from a set-piece again. We did it last season and it is really frustrating. I am sure the fans are also very disappointed. We have to improve, 100%, it’s a tough moment and we have to stick together.

“We are getting into the final third but the players have to take the responsibility to score. It is the hardest part of football, making the right decision and being clinical.

“We will bounce back strong, there is a long way to go.”

Son’s comments do summarise what was yet another disappointing Tottenham performance, although fans will start to lose patience with ‘we will bounce back strong’ and other comments of a similar nature if such promises aren’t fulfilled on the pitch.

It’s not only finishing too, Tottenham only created 0.74xG against Arsenal with a lack of creativity from Son himself, along with his fellow attackers, frustratingly obvious. (FotMob)
