What did Bentancur do wrong?

Earlier today, the FA confirmed that Bentancur has been charged for the comments he made during the summer about his teammate, Son Heung-min.

During an interview with the Uruguayan programme Por la Camiseta, the midfielder was asked by the host for a Tottenham player’s shirt and he responded: “Sonny’s? It could be Sonny’s cousin as well because they all look the same.”

Almost two months on from the incident, the FA have now charged the 27-year-old with an ‘aggravated breach’ of Rule E3 due to a reference to Son’s nationality/ethnicity.

Bentancur could be banned

Gold has now revealed that if the charge is upheld, Bentancur could face a ban between six to 12 matches.

The journalist explained that the midfielder can play in the meantime, but he will have to decide whether to accept or reject the charge.

If he accepts it, the commission will decide on the sanctions and if he rejects it, they will decide whether to uphold or dismiss the charge first before deciding on possible sanctions.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bentancur is not in a position to deny the charge since he is on video saying what he did.

The midfielder will hope that he can get off with a small ban and one hopes that this is a learning moment for the Tottenham player.
