Even though Arsenal have been ravaged by injuries, Martin Keown believes they will still have too much firepower for Tottenham on Sunday.

Arsenal are walking wounded into the NLD

According to reports, Arsenal could be without as many as seven first-team players due to a combination of injuries and suspensions (Football.London).

The Gunners have seen both Riccardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard pick up injuries while playing for Italy and Norway respectively during the international break.

Keown insisted that while the Gunners will feel hard done by with those developments, he suggested that the players need to use that as fuel to get one over on their old enemy.

The Arsenal legend told talkSPORT (as relayed by MSN): “I just look at what happened at the weekend and I think it was an unfair situation for Arsenal to have to deal with but you put it to one side, don’t you?

“You use it as oxygen for the game with Spurs and in that game, you always go into the cauldron of anticipation with the fans and the start of a new season.”

Who will win the North London Derby?

However, Keown is under no illusions about the difficulty of the task ahead of Mikel Arteta’s side, insisting that his former side will have to be at their best to emerge with three points from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He continued: “Spurs have already lost a game against Newcastle but I like what Spurs are doing. I like the way they play and the unity and togetherness in the stadium, so it’s a difficult situation.

“We have to respect Spurs and it’s difficult because you want to go there with your best players but they’re not there. It’s not been a lucky start for Arsenal but what they need to do is go into that cauldron and pick up some points.”

The 58-year-old suggested that Arsenal’s watertight defence will be difficult to breach and backed the Gunners to pick up their third consecutive win at N17.

He added: “I think that Arsenal are still good enough – when you look at their defensive record and the number of clean sheets in recent times.

“If you look at their away record you start to think they have the pedigree of champions. I’m going to go with Arsenal but you have to earn everything you get at Spurs now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even as Tottenham fans, we cannot deny that Arteta has created an Arsenal side with a terrific mentality and their players will come into the game believing they can win, no matter who they are missing.

However, we also know that under Ange, the Tottenham players will not hold back or show any respect to their opposition. We will throw the kitchen sink at them, but we need to be a lot more ruthless in the final than we have been over recent weeks to come away with a win from this game.
