Everybody knows that Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to end their long wait for a trophy, and James Maddison has been discussing how he and his teammates aim to deliver silverware to the club again.

Tottenham need to be fighting for trophies

It has now been 16 years since Spurs last won a trophy. Ledley King and co. lifted the League Cup in 2008 with a win over Chelsea, but the Lilywhites have lost in two finals since then — the Champions League in 2019, and the Carabao Cup in 2021.

This season, Tottenham are competing on four fronts, with Europa League football on the menu once more. Ange Postecoglou‘s side are the favourites to win that competition already, and the pressure is on to bring success to the club once more.

Speaking to Optus Sport about the pursuit of trophies at Tottenham, James Maddison was asked which trophy he would like to win this season, and insisted the club has to challenge for them all.

He said: “What trophy would I like to win? I’d like to win all of them. Listen, it’s obviously spoken about a lot in the media here and it’s kind of a bit of a black mark against Tottenham’s name in terms of silverware.

“And that’s on us. That’s our duty to try and change the history of recent times and try and get our hands on silverware. It’s not a thing that we should not talk about. The club needs to be winning trophies, a club of this size. With the quality we’ve got we should be battling it out for trophies.”

Spurs have a chance this season

On the chances of that success arriving this season, Maddison suggested the club has plenty of opportunity to make it happen.

He added: “We’re in a few competitions this year with the Europa League, the Carabao, and the FA Cup, and the Premier League. And hopefully, we can have a deep run in one of them, because winning trophies is for sure the best thing about football.

“When all is said and done, you look back on your career and think about what you’ve won.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am really hopeful, even confident, that we will win a trophy this season. Something is coming our way. We’ve got the squad, the manager, the style of football, all sorted. Everything is in place for us to succeed.
