Tanguy Ndombele flopped at Tottenham

Ndombele’s five-year spell at Tottenham came to a predictable end earlier this summer, with the Lilywhites agreeing on a pay-off with the midfielder to terminate the year left on his contract.

Many will feel that the £63m fee that Spurs paid to sign him from Lyon in 2019 was the worst piece of business in the club’s history and it would be hard to argue against that.

After his nightmare at North London came to an end, the France international signed as a free agent with Nice and he will be hoping to rebuild his career back in his home country after flattering to deceive over the last five years.

Ndombele wants to redeem his career

Ndombele has now confessed that he is hungry to showcase his qualities and to regain his love for the game.

The former Tottenham man told Marca: “Returning to France was the right decision. I am at a point in my career where I need to play. I have things to prove and, beyond playing well, I want to rediscover certain sensations.”

It is not just at Spurs that the 27-year-old struggled as he also failed to set the world alight during his loan spells at Napoli and Galatasaray, but the midfielder is not closing the door on a potential move abroad in the future.

He added: “I’ve experienced some tough times, but that doesn’t mean I won’t play abroad again. I try to learn from the bad. People forget that we’re human beings, we’re not robots. I may not be the player I was before, but I can be a good player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everyone is built differently and Ndombele, despite having all the ability in the world, simply did not have the drive or the determination to succeed in a difficult, highly competitive environment.

Hopefully, the midfielder can learn to love the game again now that he has returned to France.
