Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is over the moon with the impressive start that Lucas Bergvall has made to his career at Tottenham Hotspur.

While Bergvall was continuing to turn a lot of heads in Sweden and dominate every opponent he came up against, there might have been some fear among those in charge of Swedish football about whether the youngster was making a big step too soon.

After all, the challenge of moving to a new country and competing for a place in a top-six Premier League side is an extremely formidable one for an 18-year-old with not much experience under his belt.

However, it is clear that Bergvall has quickly won over Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff, with the teenager coming on as a substitute in both of Tottenham’s Premier League matches so far.

In fact, reports even suggest that the Spurs boss is so impressed by the former Djurgardens star that the Lilywhites have shelved plans to sign a number eight this summer (The Athletic).

Bergvall has been rewarded with a call-up to the Sweden national squad for the nation’s upcoming Nations League clashes against Azerbaijan and Estonia.

His international boss has admitted that he has been keeping tabs on the midfielder’s exploits in North London.

Tomasson told Goteborgs-Posten: “I have seen all the matches he has played so far. He has done well. He has received much praise from the press as well. I have spoken to Kulusevski about him. He takes steps, and it’s fantastic.

“He plays, and the coach uses him. He is a fantastic talent with great potential. Just moving from Sweden to London is a big challenge and change.”

Based on how Tomasson is speaking about Bergvall, one would expect the midfielder to get opportunities in the international break.

The 18-year-old has already shown that he is not fazed by the pressures that come with playing on the big stage.
