It was a tough season for Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur never quite managed to produce his best after returning from a long injury lay-off and there have been some murmurs over the last few months that Tottenham may be willing to listen to offers for the midfielder this summer.

In fact, Aspor claimed last month that the Lilywhites are ready to offload the 26-year-old and that Galatasaray had expressed a keen interest in landing the midfielder.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs said on The Last Word on Spurs podcast a few days ago that while he expects the former Juventus man to stay, Tottenham could decide to replace him with Sassuolo’s David Frettesi if they get a decent offer for the Uruguayan.

Commentator Haldun Domac even revealed that Galatasaray are using the help of Bentancur’s international teammate, Fernando Muslera, to persuade the Tottenham man to come to Istanbul (Milligazete).

Bentancur scores in a penalty shoot-out win for Uruguay

Although he failed to make the starting XI again, Rodrigo Bentancur did have an impact off the bench for Uruguay against Brazil in the Copa America quarter-finals.

The Spurs midfielder came on for the final 30 minutes of the match, plus extra time, before slotting home Uruguay’s second penalty of the shoot-out.

Uruguay ended up winning 4-2 from the spot-kicks to book a place against Colombia in the semi-finals.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Bentancur leaves Tottenham this summer, which is quite unlikely, I doubt he would consider moving to Galatasaray at this stage of his career.

The Turkish club are also not in a position to be able to afford the Spurs man, who is likely to be valued at around £40m.
