5 shot, wounded near senior center in Bronzeville

Five people were wounded in a shooting outside a senior living center in Bronzeville on Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Officers responded to a call in the 700 block of East 43rd Street at 3:27 p.m. and found the five victims, police said. All five were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center.

The shooting happened near the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center and Judge Slater Apartments, a senior residence.

An adult woman was shot in her right leg and was in serious condition, police said.

A 35-year-old man was shot in his left arm; a 44-year-old man was shot in his right foot; a 39-year-old man was shot in his right arm; and a 72-year-old woman was shot in her left shoulder. All were listed in good condition, police said.

The area near the apartments was taped off Monday evening as police continued to investigate. No one was in custody.

The Chicago Housing Authority did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
