Girl, 16, seriously wounded in South Shore drive-by

A 16-year-old girl was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting early Tuesday in South Shore on the South Side.

The girl was in the backyard of a home in the 7400 block of South Dante Avenue around 1:35 a.m. when a gray SUV approached and someone opened fire before it sped away, Chicago police said.

She was shot once in each leg and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was in serious condition, police said.

No one was in custody.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
