Lollapalooza arrests rise, hospitalizations fall to lowest level in at least 6 years

Arrests at Lollapalooza rose slightly as hospitalizations fell significantly this year, city officials announced Monday.

Twelve arrests were made between Thursday and Sunday — an increase from the nine arrests reported at the event last year, according to the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications. The festival drew roughly 115,000 attendees each day.

Forty-two people were hospitalized this year, the lowest number recorded in at least six years, officials said. Last year, 63 people were taken to hospitals. And in both 2019 and 2021, there were more than 100 hospital transports.

Over half of this year's arrests came on Sunday, with three more reported on Saturday and one arrest each on Thursday and Friday, officials said. The arrestees ranged in age from 19 to 58 and face a range of charges, from theft to trespassing and reckless conduct.

Two of them have been charged with felonies for drug-related offenses.

A 33-year-old man was escorted out of the festival Thursday night for “unruly behavior,” but he later reentered and attempted to fight another attendee, according to a police report.

Officers arrested him and recovered $50 worth of “suspect cocaine” from his pants pocket, according to the report. He was charged with one felony count of drug possession and a misdemeanor count of trespassing.

A 25-year-old man was identified as a possible robbery suspect and fled from the area of the festival on Friday night, according to a police report. Officers eventually detained him and found $300 worth of "suspect cannabis" in his backpack. He was charged with one felony count of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Two years earlier, that same man was arrested for allegedly selling cannabis in the Loop during Lollapalooza, but he was found not guilty of all charges.
