Suspects allegedly flee in rideshare after man, 18, killed and boy, 16, wounded in West Lawn attack
Charges are pending for three 17-year-olds who allegedly fled in a rideshare after an 18-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting late Wednesday on the Southwest Side, police said.
The victims were walking with two 17-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl around 11:45 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Avers Avenue when at least one of the 17-year-olds opened fire at the 18-year-old and 16-year-old, Chicago police said.
The unidentified 18-year-old was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The 16-year-old was grazed in the cheek and has been released from Christ where he was in good condition, officials said.
The three teens fled in a rideshare but were arrested about four blocks away and at least one gun was found in their rideshare vehicle, police said.
Police said charges were pending and Area 1 detectives are investigating.
