Why the likely Liam Baker trade shows the AFL has gone soft

Why would West Coast give up a top draft pick for Liam Baker when they could easily get him for free? The Eagles should play hard ball and give the Tigers nothing. But like so many other clubs, they seem reluctant to make the tough decisions.
