Patagonia (4 replies)

I was very fortunate to spend the first 5 months of the year, working my way up through Patagonia with the mrs.

Starting in Punta Arenas, we first drove to Torres Del Paine National Park, where we camped for 2 nights. On our second day, we hiked to the Torres Base Mirador which has an unbelievable experience. The wind in the region is violent, but we were fortunate to get a calm day with blue skies.

We then crossed into Argentina, where we visited the Perito Moreno Glacier. We then did our second giant hike where we scaled Fitz Roy, in Él Chaltén. Another wonderful experience. Él Chaltén is a fascinating place to visit. Small, but lots of microbreweries!

From Él Chaltén, we drove to Perito Moreno National Park (not to be confused with the glacier). Here we can stay in wooden chalets for free. Equipped with nothing but some beds and a wood burner, it's something I would highly recommend to anyone who ever visits the region.

We did a lot more zigzaging between the two countries. Other highlights were the marble caves of Puerto Río Tranquilo and white water rafting in Futaleufú.

If winter wasn't approaching, we probably could have spent even longer there.

We saw lots of tourists driving around in hired campervans from a company called Wicked based in Santiago.

If you are ever looking for a different kind of holiday, you should definitely add Patagonia to you list of potential destinations.

The Chileans are great. Spoke to a few about Beausejour. A few of them could remember him playing for Blues.

I have been working on a feature length film which documents our travels and it will hopefully be released at the start of October.

For now I have put together a quick teaser for anyone who might be interested.
