Sustainable revenue
Given that villa have got themselves into a right mess with UEFA, and their recent success has been built on sand…
It made me think could teams like Leeds, Sunderland and us (when not if) be much more financially sustainable / PSR compliant when promoted to the premier league, provided you survive the first season?
Championship clubs have had to be far more commercially shrewd to get ahead of their competitors and as well as building a functioning model of selling players for profit while still progressing on the pitch.
The big six broadcasting revenue they receive matches the scale of their commercial revenue. Teams much lower down rely on broadcasting revenue hugely, with commercial revenue being a growing but relatively minor part. Player profit from sales being an another chunk but is more risky, as it is disruptive and a few dud replacements can cost you at that level.
