80 years ago far far away
80 years ago the war in the East and Pacific ended. Somewhere in the jungles of Burma (Myanmar today) was the 14th General Hospital RAMC. This unit was raised in Birmingham just before 1939. It served briefly in France before being evacuated out through Dunkirk. It was then sent to India and Burma for the duration of the war.
I don't know how many supporters of the Birmingham clubs were amongst the soldiers but what I do know is that my Dad was one of them. Born in Lozells he and my grandfather were devoted supporters of Birmingham City, a proud tradition that I, my younger son and nephew continue today.
Let's take a moment to remember those who served and came home and those who served but never returned.
I treasure the times I stood with Dad on the Kop - our final live game together was that play-off final in Cardiff. Now it's me and my lad and nephew.
KRO in the very best and the very worst of times.
